LEARNING THE LANGUAGE

The Maltese and Gozitan people are very friendly and will appreciate any efforts to speak a few words of the local language.

The official languages are Maltese and English. Maltese is a language of Semitic origin written in the Latin script. Over the centuries, it has incorporated many words derived from English, Italian, and also French. Italian and English are widely spoken. People working in the tourism industry, including food and beverage servers, speak English.
