We’re still in scorching August and the hot weather that we’ve been having just points to one direction – cooling down by the pool or by the beach! However, by end of August, the days will be definitely shorter, heralding the cooler Autumn days. In Gozo, Autumn also means the ‘Opera Season’.
Described as a buzzing and professional scene, the opera in Gozo dates back to 40 years ago. Today, the two main theatres in Victoria, Aurora and Astra, are engrossed in a healthy battle of productions that every season stages different productions of the highest standards, roping in acclaimed international stars. In order to celebrate its first opera production 40 years ago, this year Aurora Theatre is staging not one, but two operas on the night of the 14th October – La Cavalleria Rusticana and I Pagliacci. On the 26th and 28th October, it’s the turn of the Astra Theatre, which is presenting Lucia di Lammermoor, a tragic opera by Gaetano Donizetti.
